The Cyclones started their season at the Holy Names University Tri-Meet, where they competed in a 6k against Holy Names University, Dominican University and William Jessup University. Overall the Cyclones took 4th place with senior Laura Schultz finishing first for Mills with a racetime of 28:04.6; finishing 7th out 27 runners.
Head coach Ivory Veale commented, "This is the first season in my 4 years that the Cyclones have gotten off to a fast start with the overall team performances. First year runner Ashwini Bartolucci led all Cyclones as the number 4 overall runner through the first 1k and held strong well into the 2k stage of the race finishing 16th overall. First year runners, Esther St. Pierre, Jessica Griepenburg, Grace Barton, Keelin Monaghan, and Ekua-Yaaba Monkah all represented well in their first showing at the 6K distance. All finishing under 40 minutes."
Veale wants to build upon the successes of this first race by increasing elevated instensities in the workouts as well as continuing to build team chemistry and cohesion. He was pleased with the efforts from all the Cyclones and is excited about how the rest of the season will play out.
The Cyclones will travel next weekend to Nevada, Missouri and race in the Cottey College Invitational.
