The Mills College Athletics, PE, & Recreation Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Tony Canedo as head tennis coach.
Canedo brings over 30 years of coaching experience to the Cyclones, including experience at the NCAA Division III level. Owner and director of the Canedo Tennis Academy in Milwaukee, he has coached all levels of tennis since 1989, including players on the Men’s and Women’s Professional and U.S. Super National Junior circuits. He previously coached at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, serving as both men’s and women’s head coach. There he had success in bringing the program to the post-season championship level.
A stand-out collegiate player at the University of San Francisco, Canedo was co-captain of the tennis team his senior year, playing the #2 singles and #1 doubles for the NCAA Division I program. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from USF, he went on to play professionally, touring with the International Tennis Federation and playing in the Bundasliga in Germany.
Outside of athletics, Canedo received his law degree from Marquette University Law School in 1996 and currently serves on the Alumni Board of Directors of the National Sports Law Institute. He and his wife, Emily reside here in Oakland with their two children.
