What is your full name?

Mollie Rachel Schottstaedt

Where did you grow up?

Mill Valley, CA

What is one of your favorite places to go/favorite things to do in your hometown?

My favorite place to go would have to be the Marin Municipal Watershed District. It is a place where I can go for inspiration and to be alone, but also to meet many different kinds of people on the trails and learn more about the natural world around me.

How long have you been competing in your sport?

This is my first year ever swimming competitively, but I swam in a Masters Class for most of my life at a local swimming club.

Who/What got you into your sport?

From a very young age, my parents made absolutely sure my brother and I could swim. I was a water child and would spend hours on end swimming in the ocean, local lakes, rivers, creeks, puddles... you name it. Every time I jumped in it felt as if I was transported to another world and I was part of something bigger than myself.

What is your favorite thing about your sport?

The Mills College swim community encompasses everything I value and love. My teammates and coaches are committed, supportive, and hold a deep love and appreciation for what they do. Entering college, I was nervous to swim on the team, but my worries were quickly dispelled when I was greeted with the grinning faces of my new Mills family.

On a free Saturday with no homework or plans, what would your ideal day look like?

I often drive out to Point Reyes by myself and walk the Bear Valley Trailhead with my camera and binoculars to search for woodpeckers. This is my ideal Saturday.

What's something in the Bay Area that you really want to visit or see?

I have always wanted to climb Mount Tamalpais. I have hiked down the mountain, but I have yet to hike to the summit.

What is your favorite thing about Mills?

The campus and the people.

What is your favorite color?

What is your favorite food/drink?

I love cold tangerines and chai lattes :)

What song do you have on repeat right now?

Trampoline by SHAED and Rewrite the Stars (with James Arthur & Anne-Marie) from The Greatest Showman.

Is there anything that you are doing outside of athletics that you are super passionate about?

I love anything having to do with birds (especially bird watching as my team and loved ones well know). I also work part-time as a doctor's assistant at the Cat Clinic of Mill Valley during the summer. I love working there because I get to meet so many people and work with animals and my amazing coworkers.

What is something you want to do before you graduate?

Solidify my illustration style.

What is your favorite class this semester and why?

Creating Books/Creating Art taught by Kathy Walkup. I like the class because it challenges me think about aspects of books I never considered before like how the composition and art style of the book can affect the way a reader interprets the content.

Major and minor (if it applies):

Undeclared, but debating between three: English (with a creative writing concentration), Book Arts, and/or Studio Art.
