With only 2 fall regattas, the Cyclones made sure to build upon their first race success this past weekend at the Head of American regatta. Rowing against multiple DI and DII universities, both the varsity and novice boats competed hard on Saturday.
Finishing 6th out of 7 with a race time of 24:01.5, the novice 8+ boat was excited about how much they improved during this very short fall season.
The varsity 4+ and 8+ improved in both races. The varsity 4+ had to race shortly after the 8+ race and posted a 22:56.7 race time, finishing 12th out of 20. Even with the short rest time between the two races, the varsity 8+ but was still able to close their margin on Saint Mary's boats from the prior regatta by over 30 seconds.
"The varsity boats were able to be near or ahead of many of the teams we compete against at WIRA's, so the team is motivated to push hard during the off-season so we can be competitive this spring," said head coach Sara Nevin.
In February, the Cyclones will be back in action with scrim at Briones Resovoir, followed by 3 regattas in March.
