Opening the year at CSU East Bay, the Cyclone swim team made a strong showing. In this head-to-head meet, the 9 Cyclone swimmers faced East Bay’s 21 swimmers. Head coach Neil Virtue said, “Our team really focused on and executed really well on the controllables. Behavior, effort and support were fantastic against a really strong East Bay team. I was proud of the way our team showed and competed, small but mighty.”
Senior Morgan Leishman battled in the 200 free and 200 back against the DII swimmers. Coming 4th in the 200 free, Leishman was only 5 seconds behind 3rd place and posted a 2.06.42 race time. In the 200 back, Leishman placed 4th as well, one second behind East Bay. Posting a 2.13.82 race time, this was Leishman’s fast in-season time for the 200 back.
Senior Hannah Soltz and junior Maggie Krystad both had a great opening meet. Soltz came 3rd in the IM and 1st in the 200 breaststroke. Krystad posted a 2.52.74 race time in the 200 back and a 2.34.70 in the 200 free. Virtue commented, “[They had] strong swims that were just at or better than their in-season best times from all of last year, this early in the season!”
The Cyclones will be hosting two meets back to back next weekend. The Double Dual Meet will be on Oct. 26ht and the Bay Area Invitational on the 27th.
