Senior Led Cyclones Finish a Great Season

This season, the Cyclones were led by four seniors and a strong group of first years and sophomores. A focus this season was on the team’s skill set. Head coach Jack Cowden explained why these improvements were possible.

“[We created an] understanding of the fundamentals and [worked on] improving those skill sets. We also had a stronger commitment by the seniors in practices. The first years were strongly committed to improving as well.”

As you can see in the stats from last year to now, the Cyclones improved across the board in some of the most crucial areas.

The spring will focus on building upon the team’s improvements. Centering on the fundamentals while developing their strength and conditioning to help with injury prevention. “We want to develop a stronger commitment for the fall season and establish strong team goals that will be followed and continuing to change the culture toward athletic experience,” said Cowden.

Even though the team is graduating four seniors, Cowden remains optimistic in his planning for recruitment. Three of the graduating seniors are front row players, Cowden plans on focusing on filling those positions and bringing in a back row, game changer as well.

Cowden explained, “next year’s team will be very young and new, committed recruits will further the competitive culture. My goal is to establish a culture that will follow through for the next decade.” He is confident in the first years Lici Zimmerman and Stephanie Morales to become the team’s leaders to carry out that culture.
